RAMALLAH, January 5, 2017 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Information documented 173 cases of Israeli violations against Palestinian journalists in 2016, according to a report published Thursday.
The violations include arrest, shooting, beating, restriction on movement and travel, holding journalists at checkpoints, raiding of media institutions and a range of other violations.
Israel is still holding a number of Palestinian journalists in prison, most prominently is Omar Nazzal, secretary general of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, who was arrested in March when he was travelling to attend a conference for European journalists.
Nazzal’s administrative detention was renewed several times during the year.
In a related matter, Palestine TV said Thursday that the Israeli military has held its crew at a checkpoint east of Toubas in the Jordan Valley.
Bassam Daghlas, a TV manager, told WAFA that the crew composed of a reporter and a cameraman was held for several hours at the checkpoint and prevented from carrying out its work.
