RAMALLAH, October 31, 2016 (WAFA) – Qalandiya International, a contemporary joint visual art event, concluded Monday its month-long third season of exhibitions, art galleries and seminars, according to the organizers.
However, the closing show, the film "Recollection" that was supposed to be shown in Ramallah on Monday, was cancelled.
“We have reached the conclusion of Qalandiya International 2016,” they said. “We are very proud of our efforts and the momentum we created, culminating in the production of 15 exhibitions and over 80 events in Palestine and the diaspora.”
Qalandiya International adopted the theme “This Sea is Mine” as the title of its 2016 events focusing on the 1948 Nakba (catastrophe) of the Palestinian people and their return.
The Sea, according to the group, “may be able to position Palestine and the Palestinians in their rightful historic and geographical place and enable us to reclaim our organic ties with the future and the world.”
The name of Qalandiya International, founded in 2012, “is associated with the main checkpoint operated by the Israeli military, disconnecting West Bank cities and communities from Jerusalem and beyond. The setting of daily subjugation and humiliation, it represents the oppressive grip of the occupation.”
The event, held in Palestine and at different cities around the world, is held once every two years.
