RAMALLAH, October 22, 2016 (WAFA) – Takeover by Israeli settlers of 300 dunums of land in the Jordan Valley and the weekly Friday protests against settlements and the occupation were the highlight of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Saturday.
Al-Ayyam said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced financing a new settlement plan in Al Aqsa Mosque to build a Jewish temple.
Al-Quds said tens of thousands of Muslim worshippers attended the Friday prayers at Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City under heavy Israeli police presence.
In addition to these subjects, the three dailies highlighted with photos the meeting that took place between President Mahmoud Abbas and a delegation of Arab physicians.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Abbas telling the delegation in a headline that went across the front page that the issue of liberating the prisoners in Israeli jails has a priority for his administration.
The three dailies reported on their front page on the security issue in Balata refugee camp where the Palestinian security forces conducted an operation “to enforce law and order and arrest outlaws,” as came in al-Ayyam headline.
Al-Ayyam also printed a story by AFP on the top corner of its front page saying Palestinian security has arrested four people who celebrated with settlers the Jewish holiday Sukkot in a Hebron area settlement.
Al-Ayyam and al-Quds highlighted statements by the head of the Islamic Jihad Ramadan Shallah presenting a 10-point initiative to end Palestinian division. The Islamic Jihad marked in a rally in Gaza 29 years for its establishment.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the World Council of Churches and the National Council of Churches in the United States have called for an end to the Israeli occupation and for lifting the Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza since 2006.
The papers also reported on the situation on the ground in Iraq, the hacking of several major internet sites as well as Israeli plans to buy three new German submarines.
