Palestinian shot in clashes after settlers’ break into Joseph’s Tomb

NABLUS, October 20, 2016 (WAFA) – A Palestinian youth Thursday was shot and injured with a rubber-coated steel bullet during clashes that erupted after hundreds of Israeli settlers broke into Joseph’s Tomb, east of Nablus, according to security sources.

Five buses carrying hundreds of settlers and escorted with Israeli soldiers forced their way into Joseph’s Tomb, located in a Palestinian-controlled area, where they performed religious rituals, spurring clashes with Palestinian residents.

A local who was identified as Hamed Idris, 23, was shot and injured with a rubber-coated steel bullet in the head. He was transferred to hospital for medical treatment, where his condition was described as stable.

Settlers repeatedly break into Joseph’s Tomb provoking confrontation with local residents.

The site of Joseph’s Tomb is contentious. Palestinians believe the site to be the funerary monument to Sheikh Yousef Dweikat, a local religious figure, while Israeli settlers believe it to belong to the biblical patriarch, Joseph.
