RAMALLAH, October 10, 2016 (WAFA) – Japan funded two community projects in the West Bank that included a school and a health center, a press release by Japan’s representative office in Ramallah said on Monday.
Takeshi Okubo, representative of Japan to the Palestinian Authority, signed at his Ramallah office with representatives of Abud village council, near Ramallah, and Beit Sahour Cooperative Society for Health Welfare grant contracts for two Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) for a total amount of $143.647.
Abud Village Council received a grant of $61,387 that will be used to finish the interior and exterior works of the new school building of the Secondary Mixed School in the village. This project’s objective is to secure extra space and have a much more efficient environment for about 59 science course students and 45 general students who can study the at new wing, said the press release.
The $82,260 granted for Beit Sahour Cooperative Society for Health Welfare will be used to install the arthroscopic surgical system. This project’s objective is to assist the patients who are offered the surgery by arthroscopies without excessive burdens of conducting open surgery or visiting other hospitals outside of the area. Patients in need of arthroscopic surgical system in the hospital are expected to increase from about 60 patients to 220.
In addition, patients concerned about open surgery will be conducted diagnosis by arthroscopic surgical system with the minimum economic and physical burden and without visit to other hospitals outside of the area.
Ambassador Okubo emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting the Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.
Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to the Palestinians to approximately $1.7 billion. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
