Palestinians in Israel to mark uprising anniversary

SAKHNIN, October 1, 2016 (WAFA) – Palestinians in Israel plan to mark Saturday the anniversary of the Al Aqsa uprising when Israeli police shot and killed 13 people in the Galilee, the Triangle and in the Naqab.

Head of the Arab Follow up Committee Mohammad Baraka said the Palestinian people “will never forget nor forgive” the killing of 13 protesters who participated in mass demonstration on October 1, 2000 in support of the uprising in the occupied territories.

The second intifada, or uprising, broke out after police shot and killed several Palestinians at Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on September 28 who were protesting a provocative tour of the Muslim holy site by then opposition leader Ariel Sharon.

Police opened fire at the protesters in the Galilee in the north, the Triangle in the center and the Naqab in the south killing 13 people and wounding many others.

Palestinians had since been marking this day with rallies and marches to the graves of the dead.

The main event is planned to take place Saturday afternoon the Galilee town of Sakhnin.
