RAMALLAH, September 19, 2016 (WAFA) – The Non-Aligned Movement’s summit that convened in Caracas, Venezuela, endorse at the end of its sessions on Sunday a statement declaring 2017 as year for end of Israeli occupation, according to the Palestinian dailies published on Monday.

The three dailies gave extensive coverage on their front page for the Non-Aligned Movement summit and its declaration that 2017 is going to be the year for ending Israeli occupation of Palestine.

They also highlighted the speech of President Mahmoud Abbas at the summit with focus on Abbas’ meetings with his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro and with Arab and foreign officials as well as a delegation representing the Palestinian community in Venezuela.

Al-Ayyam quoted presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh stating that Abbas would stress the importance of convening an international peace conference on the Palestine question during his attendance of the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Abbas arrived in New York Sunday night for the UN meeting where he is expected to deliver a speech.

The main front page story in Al-Quds and al-Ayyam covered Israeli army shooting and critically wounding of Baha Odeh, 20, a Bethlehem area resident, following an alleged stabbing attack on Sunday at the settlement of Efrat, southwest of Bethlehem.

Highlighting army raid and arrest campaign across the West Bank, al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli forces detained 11 Palestinians from the West Bank, including a Palestinian boy and a woman for allegedly being in possession of knives.

The dailies highlighted the ongoing suffering of Palestinian detainees Malik Qadi and the brothers Muhammad and Mahmoud Balboul who have been on hunger strike for over two months to protest their administrative detention.

Al-Quds said the Balboul brothers and Qadi continued their hunger strike despite their deteriorating health condition.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted attorney Ahlam Haddad saying that Qadi may die within hours.

Highlighting latest settlement construction plans in the West Bank, al-Quds said Israel advanced plans for the construction of 450 new settlement units in Gilo, north of Bethlehem.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Israel arrested 20 officials from Balad, one of the main Arab political parties in Israel.
