RAMALLAH, September 17, 2016 (WAFA) – The killing of two Palestinians and a Jordanian by Israeli forces in Hebron and Jerusalem following alleged attacks hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Saturday.
The three dailies said Israeli forces fatally shot two Palestinians and critically injured a young woman in Hebron as well as a Jordanian citizen shot dead in Jerusalem.
Soldiers shot dead a Palestinian man near Tel Rumeida area of Hebron’s Old City after he allegedly lightly stabbed an Israeli soldier.
Another Palestinian was killed and a woman relative was critically wounded by Israeli forces near Kiryat Arba settlement, outside of Hebron’s Old City, after he allegedly carried out a car-ramming attack. The slain Palestinian was identified as Moussa Khaddour, 18, while the wounded woman was identified as 18-year-old Raghad Khaddour.
The Jordanian citizen was killed after he allegedly attempted to stab policemen outside Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate. He was identified as Said Amr, 28. He entered the West Bank via Allenby Bridge crossing the day before.
The dailies said quoted presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh as condemning the Israeli killing of alleged attackers and urged the international community to provide protection to the Palestinian people.
Al-Quds reported member of Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Executive Committee Hanan Ashrawi as stating: “Israeli deliberate killings of Palestinians and settlement construction require international sanctions to be imposed on Israel.”
Moreover, al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted the severely deteriorating health of Palestinian detainees, Malik Qadi and the brothers Muhammad and Mahmoud Balboul, who have been on hunger striking for over 60 days and are currently held in Israeli hospitals.
Al-Quds said the three hunger strikers are on the verge of death. Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said other Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons are threatening to take measures in solidarity with the hunger strikers.
Al-Quds said the Egyptian authorities decided that Rafah crossing with the Gaza Strip would be open for four days to allow Mecca pilgrims to return home.
Highlighting latest settlement plans in Jerusalem, al-Quds said Israel advanced a plan to build three buildings and scores of new settlement units in Jerusalem.
Covering an Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics’ report, the dailies said settlement construction increased by 40% in the first half of 2016.
Al-Quds highlighted a report by Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO) planned to be submitted to the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee meeting in New York.
It quoted the report: “The key constraints to greater Palestinian socio-economic development … arise primarily from the persistence of the occupation.”
The dailies said a Palestinian was forced to demolish his own home in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabbir.
