RAMALLAH, April 16, 2016 (WAFA) – Shooting and injuring scores of Palestinians during weekly Friday across the West Bank and the remarks made by President Mahmoud Abbas during his visit to Paris hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that dozens of Palestinians were shot and injured with live ammunition and rubber-coated steel bullets as Israeli forces quelled weekly rallies across the West Bank and along Gaza borderline.
Al-Ayyam noted that 22 Palestinians were shot and injured by Israeli forces in the weekly Friday rallies.
Covering Abbas’ remarks in their front page news items, al-Quds reported Abbas as offering his support for the French efforts to widen participation in the proposed international conference aimed to reach a political solution to the ]Question of Palestine[.
He was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida as offering his full support to the French efforts to achieve peace in accordance to the two-state solution and Arab Peace Initiative.
French President Francois Hollande was quoted in al-Hayat al-Jadida as stating that his country has taken an initiative that would bring together all relevant peace international partners for a peace process that implies a certain order and a certain calendar.
Furthermore, al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted 13th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul.
Al-Quds reported that the summit adopted over 200 resolutions that highlighted the Question of Palestine as among one of the central issues facing the ‘Muslim world’.
Al-Ayyam reported in this regard that summit declaration adopted all the Palestinian positions and re-adopted a development plans for various vital sectors in Jerusalem.
Al-Quds reported that Israeli forces launched a detention raid campaign across several West Bank districts.
Highlighting a report co-issued by the Palestinian Detainees and Ex-detainees Committee and Palestine Prisoner’s Society, the three dailies reported that Israeli forces have detained a total of 1,000,000 Palestinians since 1967.
The three dailies reported that Israeli forces handed demolition notices for two Palestinian structures in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli forces leveled parts of reclaimed agricultural lands belonging to the Nablus village of Jalud.
The three dailies covered Israeli Interior Minister Aryeh Deri’s plan to grant temporary blue ID cards to 2,000 Palestinian spouses of Israelis living in Israel.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that US Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and his rival Hillary Clinton traded blows over Middle East policy at a debate in New York.
Al-Ayyam explained that Sanders criticized Israel, while Clinton defended Israel. Sanders reportedly called on the US to play an “even-handed” role with regards to the Question of Palestine.
Highlighting a press release issued by the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO), al-Ayyam reported that the UN has warned that the viability of the two-state solution is “in danger” as a result of Israeli settlement construction activity and confrontations.
