Young child dies of starvation and malnutrition in Gaza amid ongoing Israeli blockade

GAZA, July 25, 2025 (WAFA) – A child died this morning from starvation and severe malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, according to medical sources bringing the total number of famine-related deaths in the region to 114.

Medical staff at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza confirmed the death of Abdel Qader Al-Fayyumi, a young boy who succumbed to hunger and prolonged malnutrition. His death is the latest in a growing humanitarian catastrophe unfolding across the besieged enclave.

Hospitals in Gaza continue to receive increasing numbers of children suffering from hunger and malnutrition amid the total Israeli blockade imposed on the territory. According to medical reports, approximately 900,000 children in Gaza are currently experiencing hunger, with 70,000 of them having reached the stage of clinical malnutrition.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has previously warned of a sharp rise in malnutrition among children under the age of five. Between March and June of this year, the rate of malnutrition in this age group has doubled, a direct consequence of the ongoing Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.

UNRWA's health centers and medical points conducted nearly 74,000 screenings for children during this period, identifying approximately 5,500 cases of severe acute malnutrition and more than 800 cases of critical acute malnutrition.
