Hot water torture and forced alcohol consumption: harrowing testimonies on abuse of Gaza detainees in Israel

RAMALLAH, July 24, 2025 (WAFA) – New testimonies released by the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society reveal brutal and unprecedented abuses suffered by Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip while in Israeli custody.

The report, published Thursday, is based on legal visits conducted in July to several Israeli prisons and detention camps, including Naqab, Ofer, Sdeh Teiman, and others. It details serious violations committed against detainees, including physical torture, psychological abuse, medical negligence, and systematic starvation.

One detainee described being poured with boiling water while held at Naqab Prison, where he is currently imprisoned in a tent housing 27 detainees in extremely harsh conditions. The detainees report continuous physical assaults, deliberate starvation, and denial of medical care, including for widespread skin infections such as scabies, which have intensified due to poor hygiene and lack of treatment.

In a particularly disturbing account, a detainee stated he was forced to strip naked and drink alcohol—a form of humiliation and abuse.

Another testified that an Israeli interrogator falsely informed him that his entire family had been killed, leading him to attempt suicide in his cell. He later learned that his family was alive, breaking down in tears upon hearing the truth.

One detainee described suffering head injuries requiring surgical staples that were left untreated for months, causing severe infection.

Another reported partial blindness and balance issues due to beatings during transfer between facilities.

Several others detailed bone fractures, dog attacks, and months of solitary confinement under extreme physical and psychological pressure.
