Israeli Police Attack, Injure Palestinian Detainees in Israeli Nafha Jail

RAMALLAH, April 13, 2016 (WAFA) - Israeli Prison forces Wednesday raided the cells of Palestinian prisoners incarcerated in the Nafha prison in Israel, assaulting them and beating them up, according to the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs.

Head of the commission, Issa Qaraqi, said large police forces raided Division 14 in Nafha Israeli jail, brutally and indiscriminately attacking Palestinian detainees with their clubs and using pepper spray against them.

Dozens of detainees were reportedly injured, which necessitated their transfer to Soroka Medical Center, a hospital in Beersheba, Israel, for medical treatment.

The commission held the Israeli government and Nafha prison administration fully responsible for the lives of Palestinian detainees, calling on human rights and humanitarian groups to head immediately to Soroka center to check on the detainees’ condition.

According to the Times of Israel, “The annual US State Department report on human rights violations worldwide contained harsh criticisms for Israel’s alleged institutional discrimination against Palestinians, especially in regard to its treatment of Palestinian prisoners.”
