RAMALLAH,
August 17, 2014 (WAFA) – Former Vice President of the European Parliament,
Luisa Morgantini, said on Sunday the European campaigns in solidarity with the
Palestinian people are increasing, particularly after Israel committed war
crimes in Gaza.
Morgantini’s
statement came as she met with Deputy Minister of Local Government, Mazen
Ghnaim, who is also head of the national committee for the commemoration of the
International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The national
committee has been formed in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution
A\68\12 issued on November 26, 2013 – regarding the designation of the year
2014 as a year for solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Gunaim
briefed Morgantini on the activities and events of the committee and its plan
to communicate with all international activities, as well as its preparations
to hold an international conference for international organizations working in
Palestine, to be held in Palestine on November 20.
Meanwhile,
Morgantini said she will work with all Italian and European events to prepare
for the conference, and that she will prompt the Italian municipalities to be
involved in the conference which will lay the foundation stone for a
sustainable solidarity relationship with Palestine. This would compel Israel to
abide by international law, she said.
