CAIRO, November 3, 2026 (WAFA) – Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Nabil Fahmy condemned the presentation of credentials by an Israeli ambassador to the authorities of the northwestern region of the Federal Republic of Somalia, known as “Somaliland,” and the laying of the foundation stone for an Israeli embassy building in the city of Hargeisa.
In a press statement on Monday, Fahmy stressed that these two steps constitute a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. He added that they represent a continuation of efforts, rejected and condemned at both the Arab and international levels, to establish arrangements with the de facto authorities in the north of the country, to partition Somalia and exploit internal divisions to expand Israeli military and political influence off the Gulf of Aden.
The Arab League affirmed that these illegal measures do not change the fact that the “Somaliland” region is an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia, reiterating its rejection of any official or semi-official engagement with the region's authorities outside the framework of the national sovereignty of the Somali state.
The League recalled the position expressed by the Arab League Council during its extraordinary meeting on December 28, 2025, and its ordinary session in September 2026, as well as relevant League statements rejecting and condemning Israeli steps aimed at partitioning Somalia.
The Arab League stressed its full solidarity with the Federal Republic of Somalia and its support for its legitimate institutions, warning of the repercussions of these ongoing moves for security and stability in the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
