RAMALLAH, November 2, 2026 – Wafa – Hussein Al-Sheikh, Deputy Head of the State of Palestine, met today, Monday, with the French Special Envoy for the Strenghting of the State of Palestine, André Parant. The discussion focused on the latest developments regarding the Palestinian cause, in light of the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the escalating attacks by settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
The meeting was attended by Théo Siberrodis, Political Counselor at the French Consulate General in Jerusalem; Salomé Bataille, official in charge of the Palestine dossier at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs; Laila Ghannam, member of the Fatah Central Committee; and Aya Al-Muhaisen, Chief of Staff to the Deputy Head of the State of Palestine.
The discussion addressed the political and field conditions in the Palestinian territories, amid the ongoing aggression and the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. It also covered the intensification of settler attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem—which have targeted Palestinian citizens and their property, as well as foreign solidarity activists who have come under attack while standing in support of the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, the meeting explored efforts to establish the necessary political and on-the-ground conditions for holding upcoming legislative and presidential elections, ensuring the participation of Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. International initiatives aimed at achieving peace were also discussed. During the meeting, Al-Sheikh emphasized the importance of France continuing its political and diplomatic role in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people. He urged France to build upon its recognition of the State of Palestine by working to halt Israeli aggressions and violations, providing international protection for the Palestinian people, and translating international stances into practical steps that contribute to ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
For her part, Ghannam outlined the current situation on the ground and the unfolding events in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza. She highlighted the ongoing cycle of killing, destruction, and displacement, as well as attacks by settlers and the denial of the Palestinian people's fundamental rights.
The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and joint cooperation, as well as how to support reform efforts and the development of the institutions of the State of Palestine.
