President Abbas inaugurates first Palestinian cement factory in Jericho

JERICHO, November 2, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday inaugurated the first Palestinian cement factory in Jericho, established through a partnership between the Palestine Investment Fund and the Issa Khoury Group for Mining and Construction Industries.

The inauguration was attended by Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, Palestine Investment Fund Chairman Iyad Joudeh, Issa Khoury Group Chairman Issa Khoury, and a large number of businesspeople, officials and economists.

In a speech delivered on behalf of President Abbas, Mustafa welcomed attendees to Jericho and the Jordan Valley, describing the project as a significant step toward producing one of the key commodities in the national economy.

Mustafa said the factory marks an important milestone in developing Palestinian industry, particularly the construction materials sector, which is a vital part of the national economy and provides employment opportunities for a large number of workers. He expressed hope that the project would pave the way for further high-quality industrial investments in Palestine.

He also stressed the project's importance in light of the anticipated demand for construction materials in the coming period to rebuild the Gaza Strip and restore what was destroyed by the Israeli offensive.

Mustafa said the reconstruction process is intended to serve as a starting point for restoring unity between the two parts of the homeland, bringing a dignified life and hope back to Palestinians in Gaza, and strengthening their ability to remain and stand firm on their land.

He stressed that this is a national responsibility and that the government, under the president's directives, is working to create the necessary conditions to fulfill it.
