CAIRO, August 9, 2026 (WAFA) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty warned that the plan to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip remains on the table, stressing that Cairo will firmly oppose it as a “red line” for Egypt and Arab and Islamic countries.

In a press interview on Saturday evening, Abdelatty said so-called “voluntary displacement” cannot be considered voluntary if conditions are deliberately created to make life in Gaza impossible, stressing that forcing Palestinians to leave under such circumstances constitutes coercion and violates international law and the rights of people living under occupation.

The Egyptian foreign minister affirmed that Cairo “will not accept or allow” displacement, stressing its commitment to Palestinians remaining on their land and rejecting any attempts to uproot them.

Addressing the situation in the occupied West Bank, Abdelatty expressed concern over escalating Israeli violations against Palestinians, describing the developments as “silent annexation” and “de facto annexation.” He warned that continuing such policies undermines what remains of Palestinian territory and jeopardizes prospects for establishing a Palestinian state and achieving a two-state solution.

Abdelatty stressed that the Palestinian cause is rooted in the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and to establish an independent state, saying that “the use of force, no matter how great, will not achieve sustainable security for Israel or the region” as long as Palestinian rights remain unrecognized.
