Ramallah, June 2, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) reported that Israeli occupation authorities continue to escalate their targeting of women through systematic and ongoing detention campaigns. The number of female prisoners has risen again to 89, following the detention of four young women at dawn today.
In a statement issued today, Tuesday, the PPS explained that among the female prisoners are three minors, three pregnant women, 19 administrative detainees, and two women suffering from cancer. The statement noted that the majority are being held in Damon Prison, while others are being held in interrogation and detention centers.
It pointed out that the female prisoners are subjected to harsh detention conditions, including starvation, medical negligence, solitary confinement, assaults, and humiliating searches, in addition to severe overcrowding in the cells, forcing some to sleep on the floor.
The PPS explained that the pace of repression inside prisons has clearly escalated, with repeated physical assaults and the imposition of systematic punitive policies, in addition to the continued policy of detention on charges of "incitement" or administrative detention under the pretext of "secret files." He noted that more than 760 women have been detained since the beginning of the genocide.
It pointed to the deteriorating health conditions, particularly among female detainees suffering from chronic illnesses such as cancer, who are being denied medical treatment under policies that rely on starvation and contribute to the spread of disease within prisons.
The PPS affirmed that these practices are part of an organized system of torture targeting male and female prisoners, demanding the immediate release of female prisoners, especially children, pregnant women, and those who are ill, and an end to the ongoing violations against them.
