Protest in Tubas-area-village against demolition of school under construction

TUBAS, August 7, 2025 (WAFA) – Several residents, including school students participated in a protest on Thursday in the village of Aqaba, east of Tubas, condemning Israel's demolition of a school that was under construction.

Participants in the protest, called for by the Factions Coordination Committee and the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, held up banners denouncing the demolition of the school.

Tubas and the Northern Jordan Valley Governor Ahmed Al-Asaad said that the occupation's demolition of the Aqaba School violates all international agreements, expressing his condemnation of the demolition of the school, which was funded by the French government.

“Israel is trying to destroy every avenue of education, especially in the eastern areas of Tubas,” Al-Asaad said. “But the will of our people is stronger than their bulldozers.”

Azmi Balawneh, Director of Education in Tubas, pointed out that the school was supposed to serve 100 students, noting that this aggression targeting education will not undermine our children's determination to obtain an education.

He pointed out that the protest is a message to the entire world that the will of the Palestinian people will remain stronger than violence and destruction.

For his part, Mahmoud Sawafta, Secretary of the Fatah Movement in Tubas, said that the school was more than just a building, but rather was a place an edifice of peace, knowledge, and love.

By demolishing it, the occupation is destroying the dreams of children and future generations, noting that this is the true face of the occupation.

Sawafta called on international institutions to put an end to the injustice inflicted by the occupation on the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The  occupation demolished the two-story school on Tuesday. The school, which was to cover an area of 704 square meters, was built on a land area of five dunams.
