Israeli forces raze Palestinian land in Bethlehem-area-town to build new colonial road

BETHLEHEM, July 10, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli forces began razing large swathes of Palestinian-owned land in the town of Tekoa, southeast of Bethlehem, on Thursday, clearing the way for the construction of a new colonial road.

According to Taysir Abu Mfarreh, head of the Tekoa municipality, Israeli military vehicles and bulldozers stormed the areas of Qanan Saqir and Fasoura, razing land belonging to the Asakra, Zreer, and Jabrin families.

Abu Mfarreh warned that the new colonial road will result in the seizure of thousands more dunums under the pretext of “securing the route.” He described the move as part of ongoing Israeli efforts to expand colonies  and annex Palestinian land around the town.

He added that settlers have already taken advantage of the ongoing war to seize over 20,000 dunums of agricultural and grazing land in the Tekoa area, with full backing from the Israeli military.

Abu Mfarreh also pointed out that Israeli forces have tightened restrictions on Palestinian residents by installing around seven iron gates at various entry and exit points in the town, cutting off entire neighborhoods and limiting movement between Tekoa and nearby villages.

The town of Tuqu', located on the southeastern outskirts of the Bethlehem governorate, has faced years of escalating settlement activity and land confiscation, threatening to sever geographic continuity between Palestinian communities in the area.
