Secretary of Fatah Movement regional branch in Jenin sentenced to 42 months in Israeli prison

JENIN, August 10, 2026 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation court at Salem military camp today sentenced Ata Hassan Atiya Rmeilat-Abu Rmeileh, 67, secretary of the Fatah Movement regional branch in Jenin, to 42 months in prison and fined him 5,000 shekels.

Alaa Abu Rmeileh, the detainee's son, told WAFA that Israeli occupation forces detained his father from his home in Jenin city on October 31, 2023, and assaulted him during the detention. He has since been subjected to harsh detention conditions and prolonged court proceedings.

He stressed that the sentence comes amid previous warnings about his father's deteriorating health, noting that he requires open-heart surgery.

Abu Rmeileh is a prominent political and organizational figure in Jenin Governorate. He has served as secretary of the Fatah Movement regional branch in Jenin and maintained a prominent political and community presence in the governorate for many years.

In March 2025, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs warned of a serious deterioration in Abu Rmeileh's health, noting that his weight had fallen below 40 kilograms and that he was suffering from heart problems requiring specialized medical intervention, including open-heart surgery.
