MILANO, June 12, 2025 (WAFA) – A group of 17 children from the Gaza Strip, including Adam al-Najjar, who lost his nine siblings in the Israeli occupation's massacre of his family last month, arrived in Italy for medical treatment.
They were accompanied by more than 50 family members.
Adam al-Najjar, who suffered multiple fractures, arrived with his mother at Milan's Linate Airport, where he was received by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani before being transferred to the city's Niguarda Hospital.
The plane that landed in Linate carried five other injured children, while 11 others arrived on flights to other Italian airports.
The Israeli massacre, which occurred on May 23, resulted in the killing of nine of the children of Alaa al-Najjar and her husband, Hamdi al-Najjar, who was killed about a week after the massacre. Adam was also critically injured and transferred to Nasser Hospital, one of the few operating medical facilities in the southern Gaza Strip.
"Adam's condition is stable," Najjar, 36, told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. "He was shot in the head, and the wound is healing. But the bones in his left arm are broken and the nerves are damaged."
"The damage is to my left hand. There is a nerve problem, so I can't feel my fingers. I still feel severe pain," Adam said.
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced earlier on Wednesday that 70 children would arrive in Italy on three planes. The patients will receive treatment in hospitals in several cities, including Milan, Rome, and Bologna.
According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) website, the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has killed more than 15,000 children and injured more than 34,000 others so far.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the latest transfer brings the number of wounded citizens transferred by the Italian government from Gaza for treatment in the country to 150.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had previously stated that "Israel's operations against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have reached unacceptable proportions," calling for an immediate halt and the protection of civilians.
