RAMALLAH, April 9, 2025 (WAFA) — The Israeli occupation forces continue their aggression on the city of Tulkarm and its camp for the 74th consecutive day, and on the Nour Shams camp for the 61st day, amid military reinforcements, escalating operations on the ground, and the demolition of homes.
WAFA correspondent reported that the occupation forces blew up the home of detainee Muhammad Jawdat Qasim Shahrour in the eastern neighborhood of the city this morning.
They surrounded the area at dawn, imposed a tight cordon, and forced the residents of neighboring homes to evacuate amidst heavy military reinforcements.
In February, the occupation forces notified the family of Shahrour, 28, that they would seize and demolish his apartment, located on the ground floor of a four-story residential building. Shahrour had been detained since April 9, 2024.
Meanwhile, late last night, the city of Tulkarm saw storming by occupation vehicles and infantry units, particularly in the eastern neighborhood and the city center.
They set up a flying checkpoint on the street leading to the Martyr Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital, disrupting traffic and making it difficult for citizens and ambulances to pass.
They also raided a café on the aforementioned street and interrogated a number of young men inside. No detentions were reported. Meanwhile, Al-Muqata'a Street in the eastern neighborhood of the city witnessed an intense mobilization by occupation forces, including the installation of flying checkpoints and thorough vehicle inspections.
In an unprecedented escalation, last night, the occupation forces unloaded a large truck loaded with pigs in the employee housing area in Aktaba suburb, adjacent to the Nour Shams camp east of the city. This provocative and dangerous move threatens the safety of residents and raises fears that these animals will be used to intimidate residents and damage property. Several pigs were seen roaming the agricultural lands in Aktaba this morning.
Meanwhile, the occupation forces dispatched military reinforcements, including infantry units and vehicles, to the Tulkarm and Nour Shams camps, accompanied by live ammunition and occasional explosions. Yesterday, they blew up a house in the Manshiyya neighborhood of Nour Shams camp, while seizing a number of homes and converting them into military barracks, after forcibly evicting their residents and preventing their return under threat.
The occupation forces continue to seize homes and residential buildings on Nablus Street and the northern neighborhood of the city, transforming them into military barracks, with their vehicles stationed in the vicinity. They also restrict citizens' movement on the street, whose sections have been closed off with earth mounds in both directions.
This escalation comes as part of the occupation's ongoing systematic aggression on the city of Tulkarm and its tightened siege of its two camps.
This siege has resulted in the killing of 13 citizens, including a child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant. Dozens have also been injured and arrested, and more than 4,000 families have been forcibly displaced from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, along with dozens of families from the northern neighborhood of the city, after their homes were seized and a number of them converted into military barracks.
It also caused widespread destruction to infrastructure, including homes, shops, and vehicles, which were completely and partially demolished, burned, vandalized, looted, and stolen. 396 homes were completely destroyed and 2,573 partially destroyed in the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, in addition to the closure of their entrances and alleys with earth mounds.
