UN allocates $110 million to compensate for cuts in humanitarian aid

RAMALLAH, March 6, 2024 (WAFA) – The United Nations announced on Thursday the allocation of $110 million from its emergency fund to compensate for the hasty cuts in humanitarian aid around the world, especially by the United States.

The statement affirmed that these funds will "strengthen vital assistance in 10 of the least funded and most neglected global crises, in Africa, Asia and Latin America."

A third of the total amount will go to Sudan, which is currently suffering from the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, as well as to neighboring Chad, which is hosting countless refugees fleeing the fighting in Sudan.

"For countries exhausted by conflict, climate change and economic turmoil, severe budget cuts do not mean the disappearance of humanitarian needs," said the organization's international humanitarian coordinator, Tom Fletcher.
