JERUSALEM, September 29, 2026 (WAFA) – The Jerusalem Governorate condemned the attacks carried out by colonists against Palestinian citizens in Jerusalem’s Old City—particularly in the Damascus Gate area—coinciding with their celebrations of the so-called "Feast of Tabernacles" (Sukkot). These events were accompanied by harassment and assaults targeting citizens, passersby, and shopkeepers.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Governorate emphasized that these attacks are no longer isolated or sporadic incidents; rather, they recur noticeably during every Jewish holiday or occasion. They target residents of the Old City—including the elderly, women, and shopkeepers—as well as journalists and photographers, who face harassment and assault while performing their duties and documenting events on the ground.

The Governorate asserted that transforming Jerusalem’s streets and neighborhoods—especially the Old City and its entrances—into arenas for displays of force and the imposition of colonial rituals at the expense of citizens' lives and rights constitutes an assault on the rights of Jerusalemites to freedom of movement, security, and the conduct of their daily lives. It further deepens the policy of imposing a *fait accompli* in the city.

The Jerusalem Governorate warned that the recurrence of these attacks, coupled with tightened measures and restrictions on citizen movement during Jewish holidays and religious occasions, creates a dangerous reality that fuels further tension and volatility in the city.

The Jerusalem Governorate called upon the international community, as well as international human rights and media organizations, to shoulder their responsibilities, monitor the attacks and harassment faced by Jerusalemites, and work to ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians and put an end to the policy of impunity.
