Israeli airstrikes on two schools sheltering displaced persons in Gaza’s Jabalia leave several casualties

GAZA, October 20, 2024 (WAFA) - Several Palestinians were killed and others were injured on Sunday night in Israeli airstrikes targeting two schools sheltering internally displaced persons in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip.

Local sources indicated that Israeli artillery shelled the UNRWA-run Hafsa School in Jabalia refugee camp, resulting in numerous casualties among those sheltering inside.

Israeli forces also bombed the Abu Hussein School in the Jabalia camp, causing additional fatalities and injuries. Meanwhile, civil defense teams were also banned from accessing the area to rescue those trapped under the rubble and injured.

Furthermore, the Israeli military caused fire to break out at the Hamad School, which was providing shelter to displaced individuals adjacent to the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, causing flames to spread to the hospital's generators.

Several Palestinians were also reported killed following Israeli airstrikes targeting the al-Fakhura area in northern Gaza and Al-Hattab Street in Beit Lahia.

In the al-Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City, Israeli forces targeted a group of civilians, leading to further casualties.

Additionally, an Israeli drone strike struck a vehicle in Deir al-Balah, killing three civilians.

Since the onset of the ongoing relentless Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people on October 7, 2023, by land, sea and air, an estimated 42,603 civilians were killed and 99,795 others were wounded, mostly women and children.

Thousands remain missing under the rubble and scattered on the streets.
