Minister Assaf receives Chinese ambassador to discuss strengthening media cooperation

RAMALLAH, September 15, 2026 (WAFA) – Minister Ahmad Assaf, General Supervisor of Official Media, received the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine, Sun Zhen, on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC).

Assaf welcomed the Chinese ambassador, wishing him success during his tenure in Palestine, and briefed him on the latest political and field developments in Palestine, as well as Israeli violations against journalists.

Assaf discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation with the Chinese ambassador, expressing his gratitude for China's political and economic support, as well as its support in the media sector.

The Chinese ambassador and his accompanying delegation toured the PBC headquarters, viewing its various departments and observing the workflow.

Ambassador Sun Zhen also visited the headquarters of the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA), where he was received by Editor-in-Chief Kholoud Assaf and the agency's directors-general.

Editor-in-Chief Khuloud Assaf welcomed the Chinese ambassador and provided a brief overview of the history of WAFA, covering its establishment in Lebanon in 1972 and its operations in the diaspora and exile prior to its relocation to the homeland. Assaf emphasized the strong Palestinian-Chinese relationship and the historic partnership between WAFA agency and China's Xinhua News Agency. She stressed the importance of further developing cooperation between the two sides, particularly regarding the promotion of the Palestinian narrative to counter the occupation's false version of events.

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador underscored the importance of strengthening media and diplomatic ties between Palestine and China. He noted that he follows Wafa’s news daily, regarding it as a vital source for understanding the realities facing the Palestinian people.

The Ambassador highlighted the significance of solidarity among media outlets and news agencies in developing nations, as well as the need to enhance cooperation between the Chinese Embassy and official Palestinian media, aiming for a future partnership based on the exchange of visits and expertise.

The Chinese Ambassador and his accompanying delegation also visited the National Printing Press in the town of Surda, north of Ramallah. He was received by Director General Alfred Azar and toured the facility to observe its operations.
