CAIRO, September 15, 2026 (WAFA) — President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cairo this afternoon for a two-day official visit to Egypt.
President Abbas was received at the presidential terminal of Cairo International Airport by Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk, Egypt’s Ambassador to Palestine Bassem Abdel Hadi, Chargé d’Affaires of the Palestinian Embassy in Egypt Ambassador Naji al-Naji, as well as officials from the Palestinian Embassy, the Palestinian Mission to the Arab League, and the Palestinian Consulate General in Alexandria.
On Wednesday, the President is scheduled to hold a summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the Ittihadiya Palace to discuss the latest developments concerning the Palestinian cause, as well as a number of Arab and international issues of mutual interest. The planned summit follows the two sides’ stated commitment to continued coordination and consultation on developments in Palestine.
The visit comes as part of continued Palestinian-Egyptian consultation and coordination and discussions on efforts led by Egypt, in cooperation with regional and international partners, to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people, support the reconstruction of areas devastated by the ongoing war, and mobilize efforts to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and establish an independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
President Abbas is also expected to meet with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil El-Fahmy at the league’s headquarters during his visit.
The President is accompanied by Vice President and Deputy Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Hussein al-Sheikh, Palestinian National Council Chairman Rawhi Fattouh, Fatah Central Committee member and General Intelligence Service chief Majed Faraj, Presidential Adviser for Diplomatic Affairs Majdi al-Khaldi, and Chargé d’Affaires of the Palestinian Embassy in Egypt Naji al-Naji.
