RAMALLAH, September 16, 2026 (WAFA) — Fadi Al-Husseini, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Spain, and Ahmed Maarouf, a member of the Palestinian National and Central Councils and Secretary of the Fatah movement in Spain, discussed ways to strengthen Palestinian-Spanish parliamentary relations and enhance cooperation between the two sides with several parliamentarians and officials from the Spanish Socialist Party.
The meeting was attended by Cristina Narbona Ruiz, President of the Spanish Socialist Party, Chair of the Committee on Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenges in the Congress of Deputies, and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Vicente Montávez, spokesperson for the Socialist parliamentary group on the Joint Committee on the European Union and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee; and Sergio Amanti, President of the International Union of Socialist Youth.
The discussions focused on parliamentary relations between the two countries, the importance of reactivating the Parliamentary Friendship Group, and strengthening joint parliamentary efforts.
The parliamentarians were briefed on the latest developments on the ground and the political situation in Palestine, including the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and developments related to the ceasefire agreement, as well as continued colonist attacks in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, the rising number of home demolitions, accelerating settlement expansion, and the seizure of Palestinian land.
Both sides agreed to maintain coordination and hold further meetings in the near future to follow up on the discussions and advance parliamentary cooperation between Palestine and Spain.
