CAIRO, Friday, May 24, 2024 (WAFA) - The Arab Republic of Egypt today welcomed the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which called for an immediate halt to the Israeli attacks and any other operations in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, and the opening of the Egypt–Palestine Rafah crossing to ensure full and unhindered humanitarian access to the civilian population in Gaza.
A statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the ICJ demanded the implementation of provisional measures it had previously ordered, including the opening of all land crossings between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
Egypt stressed that Israel, as the occupying power, bears full legal responsibility for the appalling humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
Egypt also demanded the UN Security Council and international actors uphold their legal and humanitarian responsibilities by adopting decisive measures to put an end to the humanitarian disaster in the Strip, achieve a comprehensive ceasefire, cease military operations in the city of Rafah, and ensure the unhindered flow of aid into the Strip and the protection of international relief crews.
