Extremist Israeli minister Smotrich demands Netanyahu to impose “harsh punitive measures” against the PA

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 (WAFA) - The extremist Israeli Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, today called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to impose “harsh punitive measures” against the Palestinian Authority following  Norway's, Spain's and Ireland's recognition of the state of Palestine.

Smotrich informed the prime minister that he intends to take immediate action to cut off the transfer of funds to the Palestinian Authority and says that he will not extend the indemnity given to the Israeli banks that transfer funds to banks in the West Bank.

He further called on Netanyahu to impose “additional economic sanctions on PA senior officials and their families” and to cancel an arrangement, known as the “Norwegian outline.”

Additionally, the far-right minister called  on Netanyahu to take a series of steps to bolster Israeli colonies in the West Bank, including immediately approving 10,000 new housing units, establishing a new community for each country recognizing Palestine.
