Diplomatic delegation visits communities in Jordan Valley, gets briefed on Israeli violations

THE JORDAN VALLEY, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 (WAFA) - A diplomatic delegation today was briefed on the Israeli colonists’ violations carried out against Palestinian civilians in several communities in the northern Jordan Valley.

A delegation from the British Consulate General in Jerusalem and the Representative Office of Canada to the Palestinian Authority, in addition to some other diplomatic representations, participated in the field tour.

British Deputy Consul Alison McEwen said that the British government would impose more sanctions on the aggressor colonists so that Israel adheres to international law.

She pointed out that the attacks committed by the colonists on population centers emanate from colonial outposts that the international community has considered illegal.

The attacks carried out by the colonists included attacks on tents and livestock and banning the access of citizens to water resources, McEwen added.

She also condemned Israel’s appropriation of Palestinian lands, which she stressed constitutes an obstacle to the two-state solution.

Residential communities in the northern Jordan Valley have been recently subjected to repeated attacks by colonists under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces.

Last week, Canada imposed sanctions on four Israeli colonists involved in violent attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, announced in a press release that Canada imposed new sanction measures on the four Israeli colonists under the Special Economic Measures Act, namely David Chai Chasdai, Yinon Levi, Zvi Bar Yosef and Moshe Sharvit.

Statistics of the Wall and Settlement Commission revealed that during 2023, Israeli occupation forces and colonist militias carried out 12,161 attacks against Palestinians and their properties in the West Bank, including 9,751 attacks carried out by the occupation forces and 2,410 attacks by colonists militias and mobs in addition to 206 jointly carried attacks.

Other countries, including the US, France and the UK, followed suit, imposing new sanctions on far-right Israeli colonists over their involvement in violence in the occupied West Bank.

Although the US has moved to sanction some Israelis involved in violence in the West Bank, it has otherwise resisted calls to impose penalties on other Israeli bodies or individuals.

Palestinians have viewed US sanctions against colonists as an apparent attempt to divert attention from its complicity in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

These sanctions falsely convey the impression that colonist violence is caused by a few bad apples, and sidestep the reality that Israel’s illegal state-directed policy of settler colonialism is inherently violent. The colonists are not acting as individuals but on behalf of the state whose goal is the theft and total control of all the land in the West Bank.
