RAMALLAH, Wednesday, May 1, 2024 (WAFA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the attack carried out by Israeli colonists today on two Jordanian aid convoys carrying food, flour and other humanitarian aid while on their way to the Gaza Strip through Karm Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) and Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossings.

In a statement, the Ministry condemned the ongoing violations and crimes of the occupation and its colonists against the Palestinian people, their land, properties and holy sites in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the genocidal war waged against the population of Gaza, which has been ongoing for 208 consecutive days.

The ministry said that Israel's persistence to prevent aid from entering the Strip to the civilian population in a safe humanitarian environment reflects the failure of the international system to provide binding humanitarian mechanisms or its lack of desire to activate those mechanisms, if any.

The statement stressed that the Israeli right-wing government and its colonists challenge the international will for peace on a daily basis and use starvation as a weapon of war to kill Palestinian civilians, thus sabotaging international efforts exerted toward ending the Israeli aggression on Gaza and creating a political path to resolve the conflict by peaceful political means based on the two-state solution.

The ministry stressed that the timely and sustainable provision of safe corridors for the entry of aid is a legal and moral obligation of the Israeli occupation authorities.

It called for effective international pressure to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, curb colonists’ attacks, provide protection for Palestinian civilians and ensure humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip. It also called for implementing UN Security Council resolutions 2720 and 2334 and imposing deterrent international sanctions on the entire colonial system.

The ministry thanked brotherly and friendly countries and international organizations for the efforts made to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and to bring humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
