AMMAN, Tuesday, April 30, 2024 (WAFA) - The King of Jordan, Abdullah II, stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during a meeting today with US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

During a meeting held at Al-Husseiniya Palace in the capital Amman, the king emphasized the importance of immediate actions to halt the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and the necessity of protecting innocent civilians.

The King underscored the need for continuous and sustainable delivery of humanitarian, relief and medical aid to the Strip through all possible avenues, warning of the danger of any military ground operation in Rafah.

He warned that the disastrous effects of the war on Gaza could extend into new areas in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, as well as to the entire region.

King Abdullah II also stressed the importance of supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), as the lifeline for some two million Palestinians in Gaza,  and for other Palestinian refugees in its areas of operation.

The King reiterated the importance of the US role in securing a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, as the only way to ensure the security of Palestinians, Israelis and the entire region.
