ZAIRO, Wednesday, April 3, 2024 (WAFA) - The Arab League Council called on the United Nations Security Council to take a decision as stipulated under the binding resolutions of Chapter VII of the UN Charter to ensure Israel's compliance, as the occupying force, with the ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip.
The meeting was held at the level of permanent representatives at the request of Palestine to discuss the Arab and international efforts aimed at stopping the Israeli aggression in light of Israel's non-compliance with Security Council resolutions and the orders of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The Council called for compelling Israel to cease its aggression against the Palestinian people and to provide them with protection, according to the Mandatory mechanisms provided for in Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
The Council also called for ensuring Israel’s compliance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, international law, international humanitarian law and the provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel.
It stressed that Israel's continuing genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, including the killings, starvation and forced displacement, despite Security Council resolutions and the orders of the International Court of Justice, requires the activation of Chapter VII of the UN Charter, on the basis that the crimes committed by Israel are acts of aggression that constitute a clear, serious and escalating threat to international peace and security.
