RAMALLAH, Wednesday, January 17, 2024 (WAFA) - The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, said that the absolute priority now is to prevent a new de facto forced displacement out of Gaza, which he stressed is legally forbidden and morally unacceptable, according to the French daily newspaper, Le Monde.
He warned of applying double standards in their treatment of the issue of Gaza, which is subjected to vicious Israeli aggression. He stated: “We cannot disregard Gaza while we resort to the international law in Ukraine.”
He underscored the need to alleviate the catastrophic situation in Gaza and pave the way toward a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The EU High Representative further stressed the importance of preventing a conflict spillover to Lebanon at any cost.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has been waging a devastating onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip, resulting in the killing of 24,285 civilians and the wounding of 61,154 others.
The ongoing aggression has displaced more than 85% of Gaza’s population, approximately about 1.9 million people.
