Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza suspends all operations amid tight Israeli siege

GAZA, Sunday, November 12, 2023 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) announced today that its Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City has ceased all of its operations as a result of fuel shortages and the resulting power outage, amid a tight Israeli military siege. The hospital is grappling with severe shortages of medical supplies, food, and water.

In a press statement, PRCS expressed its deep concern about the dire humanitarian conditions inside the hospital, saying its medical teams are making maximum efforts to provide medical care to patients and the wounded even through traditional means.

The statement held the international community and all countries signatory to the Fourth Geneva Convention accountable for the total collapse of the health system and the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, especially in the northern region of the enclave.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military continues its intensive bombardment of the vicinity of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in western Gaza City, besieging it from all directions since yesterday morning. The ongoing airstrikes raise serious concerns about the absence of essential services and warnings of a genuine humanitarian catastrophe.

Israeli military vehicles are now positioned near the main gates of Al-Shifa, directly targeting its floors amid heavy gunfire and continuous drone activity. This prevents the evacuation of displaced persons, wounded individuals and medical personnel who are left without electricity, food, water, and fuel.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society appealed to the international community to intervene urgently and address the escalating humanitarian crisis, demanding an end to the Israeli military aggression and the immediate provision of assistance to the affected population in Gaza.
