Israeli authorities force 1,500 Palestinians from their homes in Hebron, plan to displace 2,500 more

RAMALLAH, October 24, 2026 (WAFA) — Israeli forces have forced around 1,500 Palestinians to evacuate their homes in the Deir Bahha and al-Jalda areas of Hebron since Friday, with plans to displace another 2,500 people in the coming hours as part of their ongoing assault on the governorate.

The escalation has displaced more than 200 families, leaving them homeless.

Hebron Governor Khaled Dudin told WAFA that the ongoing assault had displaced more than 200 families, calling for urgent international and legal intervention to halt Israeli violations.

He said the governorate, together with local institutions and tribal communities, was working to establish a crisis management committee to assist displaced people and those affected, after a state of emergency was declared on Friday.

As part of tightening military restrictions across Hebron, Israeli forces blocked the junction and main road leading to the village of Kharsa using earth mounds and concrete blocks, hindering access to several villages and communities. They also closed several entrances to al-Arroub refugee camp, which serves as a route to Bethlehem Governorate, shut all entrances and roads in southern Hebron, and permanently sealed the area’s iron gates.

Israeli forces have continued their assault on Hebron since Friday, demolishing buildings and commercial shops in the Farsh al-Hawa area, raiding and searching homes, arresting at least 13 Palestinians, and closing entrances to the city, villages, towns and refugee camps.

Meanwhile, families were forced to spend the night outdoors after being evacuated from their homes. Israeli media reported that Israeli forces had begun taking control of buildings in the city to strengthen their control over roads leading to settlements.

On Friday, Israeli forces demolished a residential building containing three apartments in Farsh al-Hawa, west of Hebron. They closed off the area and its main entrance, the only route linking the city to the bypass road, and prevented residents and their vehicles from entering or leaving. They also closed all entrances and roads leading to Hebron.

Hebron Mayor Youssef al-Jaabari told WAFA that Israeli forces were seeking to displace around 2,500 people from the two areas, which cover approximately 350 dunams (35 hectares). He said the plans targeted around 200 families, adding that Israeli forces had marked evacuated homes and distributed notices ordering the remaining families to leave without taking their vehicles.
