Sultanate of Oman donates us$ 3 million for UNRWA to support Palestinians in need in the Gaza Strip

AMMAN, Friday, November 10, 2023 (WAFA) - The Sultanate of Oman made an unprecedented and generous donation of $3 million in support of UNRWA’s efforts to respond to the needs of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

"We express our heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty, Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq, the Sultan of Oman, for this timely show of support towards the Palestinian communities in the Gaza Strip. Oman has a tradition of solidarity with Palestinians. This generous gesture is the translation of solidarity into action, to help assist civilians in Gaza through UNRWA." stated UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini

This contribution from Oman comes in response to the Flash Appeal which UNRWA launched on 10 October 2023, currently standing at $481 million, that is intended to provide critical support to the refugees and help UNRWA address unprecedented humanitarian needs.

With some 748,000 people taking shelter in more than 150 UNRWA schools and other facilities, the Agency's resources are under immense strain as frontline workers continue to respond to increasing needs that include food and water, medicines, and basic supplies needed in shelters, including mattresses, hygiene items, and cleaning supplies.

"Oman’s swift response to UNRWA’s appeal is commendable. UNRWA calls on other Arab countries to join in and extend exceptional support in this exceptional and unprecedented humanitarian crisis," concluded Lazzarini.
