RAMALLAH, Wednesday, October 18, 2023 (WAFA) - Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh today called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to immediately intervene to treat the wounded in the Gaza Strip, where more than 12,000 wounded suffer from lack of medical equipment in hospitals.
This came during his meeting with the representative and director of operations of the ICRC in Palestine, Jean-Philippe, at his office in Ramallah.
Shtayyeh also discussed with Philippe the establishment of a Red Cross field hospital in the Gaza Strip as hospitals in Gaza suffer from a lack of staff and equipment as a result of the siege and the large number of wounded.
He stressed the duty of the ICRC to search for and evacuate the wounded in accordance with international humanitarian law as it has done in evacuating the wounded in various conflict areas around the world.
The ICRC representative said his organization is ready to establish a field hospital in the Gaza Strip and to bring in medical supplies if Israel allows it.
