CAIRO, Sunday, October 8, 2023 (WAFA) - The General Secretariat of the Arab League called today for adding Israel, along with its army and colonialists, to the list of shame of parties that violate children’s rights in armed conflicts, in implementation of Security Council Resolution No. (1612).
This came in a speech delivered by the Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs of the Arab League, Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, before the Human Rights Council at its 54th regular session in Geneva, held from September 11 to October 13, under item seven of the agenda concerned with the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory.
In her speech, Abu Ghazaleh called for the necessity of keeping item seven as a permanent item on the council’s agenda and to put pressure on Israel to stop settlement policies and arming settlers, and to stop all Israeli violations of Islamic and Christian sanctities.
She stressed the importance of ensuring international protection for the Palestinian people and their capabilities, by sending international observers and UN committees and enabling them to enter the occupied Palestinian territory, in addition to putting pressure on Israel to stop all racist and discriminatory measures practiced against the Palestinians, including seizing lands, demolishing homes and property, and stealing wealth and natural resources.
Abu Ghazaleh called for immediate action to release Palestinian and Arab administrative detainees held in Israeli occupation prisons as they are subject to arbitrary and illegal detention.
