NEW YORK, Tuesday, April 25, 2023 (WAFA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad al-Malki today met in New York with Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, briefed him on the latest developments, and urged him to implement the international resolutions on Palestine.

During the meeting, held at the United Nations headquarters on the sidelines of the Security Council session at the ministerial level devoted to the Middle East and the question of Palestine, Malki put the Secretary-General in the picture of the repeated Israeli violations against Islamic and Christian sanctities in Palestine, and the continuous siege on a number of Palestinian cities.

The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of providing protection for the Palestinian people and the need to implement Security Council resolutions, foremost of which is Resolution 904, and General Assembly resolutions, including those that gave the Secretary-General the mandate to enforce these resolutions, and the importance of not leaving the Palestinian people alone in the face of the Israeli killing machine and the current fascist government.

He pointed to the importance of implementing Security Council Resolution 2334 on settlements, and the report of the Secretary-General regarding the mechanisms to stop colonial settlement activities and encouraging countries to submit their reports on the implementation of the resolution on the way to dismantling this colonial system.

Malki invited the Secretary-General to visit Palestine and to see the situation firsthand as part of his mandate and assume responsibility toward the Palestinian people and their rights.

In turn, Guterres expressed his support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is self-determination and living in safety and security in their independent and viable state, based on United Nations resolutions and international law.
