Israeli forces bring mobile homes to evacuated Sanur military camp south of Jenin

JENIN, October 20, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces brought mobile homes, known as caravans, to the evacuated Sanur military camp along the road connecting the towns of Jaba' and Sanur, south of Jenin, amid ongoing land-leveling operations at the site, raising concerns over the establishment of a new illegal colonial outpost.

Tareq Ighbariyya, the official in charge of the colonial settlement file at the Jenin Governorate, told WAFA that Israeli occupation forces brought caravans to the camp, which was evacuated in 2005, while continuing land-leveling operations. The developments have raised concerns that the site could be repurposed for colonial settlement activities.

He added that these moves constitute a serious escalation on the ground and in security terms, aimed at imposing military control over the area, seizing more Palestinian land, and dividing Jenin Governorate into isolated “cantons” by separating Palestinian villages and communities from one another and severing their geographical links with surrounding areas.

Ighbariyya noted that establishing a new illegal colonial outpost at the site, alongside land-leveling operations and military measures, would further restrict access to agricultural land and prevent farmers from reaching their fields, threatening their livelihoods and causing severe damage to the agricultural sector. He warned that these measures could bring agricultural economic activity in the affected areas to a standstill.

He also warned of the serious repercussions of these measures for residents' daily lives, particularly their freedom of movement between towns and villages and their access to land and workplaces. He stressed that further entrenching the isolation and geographical fragmentation of Palestinian areas would exacerbate residents' economic and living burdens.

These developments follow the Israeli Security Cabinet's approval on July 15 of a proposal to establish a new illegal colonial settlement adjacent to the former Sanur colonial settlement, under a plan referred to in Israeli planning documents as “Eastern Sanur.” The establishment and expansion of Israeli colonial settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory are illegal under international law and have no legal validity, as affirmed by UN Security Council Resolution 2334.
