Newspaper Review: Dailies highlight high number of coronavirus infections, deaths

RAMALLAH, Sunday, March 07, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestinian Arabic dailies focused today on the persisting high number of daily coronavirus infections and deaths registered in Palestine yesterday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said 2011 new infections, 19 deaths and 1430 recoveries were registered in Palestine yesterday.

Al-Quds said the Palestinian Government has decided a number of precautionary measures in an effort to curb the spread of the pandemic.

Al-Ayyam said a full lockdown was imposed on the central West Bank district of Ramallah for one week starting today morning. The district has registered the highest number of infections across the West Bank for nearly a month.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the government ordered a strict ban on traffic between provinces in the West Bank to prevent the spread of new mutations.

On a different subject, al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli occupation authorities issued yesterday a military order expropriating 658 dunams of Palestinian land in the village of al-Ubeidiya, east of Bethlehem city in the south of the occupied West Bank.

The three dailies reported that a California judge has rejected and dismissed a defamation lawsuit that attempted to silence and intimidate Suhair Nafal, a Palestinian-American activist, which was brought against her by a former Israeli soldier who claimed a Nafal Facebook post objecting to Israeli war crimes defamed and slandered her.

Al-Quds said light injuries were reported among Palestinian protesters during clashes with Israeli occupation forces in the villages of Kafr Qaddum and Kisan in the occupied West Bank yesterday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said a Palestinian man last night sustained serious gunfire injuries during a mysterious shooting in the Arab city of Qalansawe, in 1948-occupied Palestine.
