RAMALLAH, Saturday, January 23, 2021 (WAFA) - Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh yesterday discussed in a telephone call with the new United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, moving the political process forward based on UN resolutions and international law.
Shtayyeh stressed the Palestinian leadership’s openness to any political process under the auspices of the International Quartet and with the participation of various parties in a multi-international framework.
He briefed the UN envoy on developments related to holding the general elections in Palestine, calling on the United Nations to make every effort to facilitate their holding, and to demand that Israel enable the Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem to participate in the elections by running and voting.
Shtayyeh and Wennesland discussed as well arrangements for the meeting of the donor countries in the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) to be held next month as the Prime Minister briefed the UN Special Coordinator on the financial situation of the Palestinian Authority after two difficult years politically, financially and economically.
They also discussed mechanisms for access and distribution of the coronavirus vaccine in Palestine, and government measures to contain the spread of the pandemic.
