AMMAN, Wednesday, December 23, 2020 (WAFA) - The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned today the continued excavations at the entrance to the Al-Shuhada’ cemetery, in the eastern part of the Yusufia cemetery in occupied East Jerusalem.
In a press statement, the ministry’s spokesperson, Daifallah al-Fayez, affirmed Jordan's rejection and condemnation of the excavations and leveling works carried out by the Israeli authorities at the cemetery's fence and stairs, calling on Israel to immediately stop the excavations, according to Petra news agency.
He warned against the continuation and expansion of these actions, or any similar digging works inside the cemetery, calling on the Israeli authorities, the occupying power, to respect the sanctity of graves and shrines and to stop all violations and provocations.
He stressed Jordan's rejection of unilateral Israeli measures aimed at changing the identity of Arab Jerusalem, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the resolutions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
