RAMALLAH, Saturday, November 28, 2020 (WAFA) – Reports of dozens of injuries from Israeli army crackdown on peaceful protests by Palestinians in the occupied West Bank against the Israeli occupation and its settlement activities were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
They said the army shot teargas canisters and stun grenades and fired rubber-coated metal bullets at the Palestinians who were participating in the weekly Friday protests against Israel’s land grab and settlement expansion activities as well as against punitive Israeli measures in the occupied territories injuring dozens.
Al-Quds said 14 people were injured from the rubber bullets, one of them seriously, in protests in Qalqilya, Nablus and Ramallah governorates.
It said Israel is planning to add 1500 housing units to its illegal Har Homa settlement, south of Jerusalem, and another 4000 units to link it to Ramat Rahel illegal settlement.
The paper quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressing that settlements are illegal and that Washington is belittling international law.
The thee Palestinian dailies also highlighted the hike in coronavirus cases in Palestine and said that nine people have died after contracting the disease and 1936 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.
They also reported on the disease and its toll in nearby countries and around the world.
Al-Ayyam quoted the United Nations saying that Israel demolished or seized 129 Palestinian-owned structures in the occupied territories in one month.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Foreign Minister Riyad Malki has called on the Union for the Mediterranean for a more active approach toward the Palestinian question.
The main front-page story in al-Quds daily touched on the assassination of the Iranian nuclear scientist near Tehran and said that Iran has accused Israel of being behind the assassination and that US intelligence members have supported this claim.
This topic was also covered on the front page of the two other Palestinian dailies al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida.
Developments in the US with the shaky transition of power from outgoing President Donald Trump, who lost the elections held on November 3, and President-elect Joe Biden were also highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds also quoted US media saying that the Palestinian issue and Israel are going to pose a challenge to Biden when he takes over the White House in January.
