RAMALLAH, Wednesday, November 25, 2020 (WAFA) – News about the Israeli military crackdown on an anti-annexation protest in the northern Jordan Valley and resulting injuries hit the front pages of the Palestinian Arabic daily newspapers on Wednesday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that Israeli military forces violently dispersed the participants of the rally organized against the Israel occupation authorities’ plan to annex the site of the demolished village of Khirbet Humsa al-Fawqa and the larger Jordan Valley.
Soldiers opened tear gas canisters and concussion grenades on protesters as the latter reached Tayaseer military checkpoint, east of Tubas city, which was closed in advance, causing dozens to suffocate due to inhaling the toxic gas.
The dailies highlighted a World Bank report revealing that a large financing gap of US$760 million is projected for 2020 and additional efforts by the Palestinian Authority even after a recent decision to resume coordination with Israel.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israeli bulldozers razed Palestinian-owned lands in Ras Karkar village, west of Ramallah, to make room for the construction of a sewage pipeline.
The papers also added that the Israeli Jerusalem’s district court rejected an appeal submitted by eight Palestinian families in protest against a decision ordering them to evict their homes in favor of Israeli settlers in Batn Al-Hawa.
The three dailies said Palestine Tuesday recorded 1,946 new Covid-19 cases and 17 fatalities.
