Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight Israeli army raids, cabinet meeting, coronavirus vaccine

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, November 10, 2020 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on their front page today different issues.

Al-Ayyam daily highlighted the Israeli army raids and detention of Palestinians in the occupied territories.

While this topic was also on the front page of the other two dailies, al-Hayat al-Jadida, and the other two dailies, highlighted the Palestinian cabinet meeting yesterday and statements by Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh on various topics.

Al-Quds daily, and the other two dailies, highlighted the announcement about a vaccine for coronavirus and said the vaccine is 90 percent effective.

Al-Quds said Russia claims its vaccine, Sputnik 5, is more than 90 percent effective.

The three papers reported on the coronavirus pandemic toll in Palestine, the region and the world.

In other news, al-Quds quoted former Hamas leader Khaled Mishaal saying that what is needed is to change the job description of the Palestinian Authority, working together in resisting the occupation and achieving reconciliation without any delay on the basis of partnership.

The aftermath of the US elections and the defeat of Donald Trump continued to receive extensive coverage on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said US President-Elect Joe Biden is focusing on the transition period despite Trump’s refusal to concede.

Al-Quds said a Trump staffer refused to allow the Biden team to start the transition of authority.

The paper also quoted observers saying that the Biden win could lead to a decline in the status of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

It also said Peace Now movement warns against Netanyahu using the time left for Trump in office to annex the settlements, while al-Ayyam had a report on the expansion of the Israeli settlements in the Trump era into a de facto annexation.

Al-Ayyam said the UN Palestine refugee agency, UNRWA, plans to pay its staff only half salary because it did not get money from the donors.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the financial restrictions in Lebanon have multiplied the difficulties for the Palestinians there.
