Newspaper Review: Dailies highlight situation of hunger-striking detainee Maher Al-Akhras

RAMALLAH, Sunday, November 1, 2020 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused today on the situation of hunger-striking Palestinian detainee in Israeli jails Maher Al-Akhras, who today enters his 98th day of hunger strike in protest of his administrative detention without charge or trial.

Al-Quds, Al-Ayyam and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said Al-Akhras was in critical condition, and may experience a sudden relapse in one of his vital organs due to deficiency of salts and fluids in his body, and his refusal to take nutritional supplements.

On a different subject, Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam said Israeli soldiers yesterday attacked Palestinian farmers working on their land in Beit Ummar town, in the south of the West Bank, and forced them to leave their land.

The three dailies said the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed yesterday 521 new cases of coronavirus and two deaths in Palestine.

Al-Ayyam said a Palestinian was injured and many others suffocated from teargas as Israeli occupation forces attacked a protest against the illegal Israeli settlements, which took place yesterday in the northern West Bank village of Kafr Qaddum.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said Bolivian President-elect Luis Arce yesterday affirmed his country’s strong position in support of the Palestinian cause at all international and local forums.

The same daily said President Mahmoud Abbas offered his condolences yesterday to the Prime Minister of Greece for the victims of the earthquake that mainly hit the Greek island of Samos and other neighboring islands.

The three dailies said thousands of Israelis resumed protests last night demanding incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down over his corruption charges and mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic.
